WATER BAPTISMS

Water baptism is an outward declaration of the inward transformation that happens when we put our faith in Jesus. It’s a public step of obedience that identifies us with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. As Acts 2:38 says: “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

We hold monthly baptism services at Freshwater Church. Please fill in the form below to get connected in ready for our next baptism service.

What does the word Baptism mean?

The word baptism in the New Testament comes from the Greek word baptizo which means to dip, to plunge, to immerse. By definition and usage, the word means to put into or under water, so as to entirely immerse or submerse.

The New Testament talks about two kinds of baptisms:
1. Baptism in water
2. Baptism in The Spirit

Water Baptism

  • Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11 Jesus was water baptised.

  • Mark 16:16, Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus commanded people to be baptised.

  • Acts 2:41, Acts 8:12-15, Acts 8:35-38 Many people in the New Testament were water baptised.

  • Romans 6 (entire chapter) Baptism symbolises dying to sin and being raised to new life in Christ.

  • Acts 8:36–38 The Ethiopian  was baptised immediately after believing in Jesus.

  • Colossians 2:12 In baptism, we’re buried with Christ and raised with Him through faith.

  • 1 Peter 3:21 Baptism is not just about water, but a response of a clear conscience toward God.

Some people ask, what If I sin again after I am baptised? 1 John 2:1 tells us: "my little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."

Baptism in The Spirit

  • Matthew 3:11 "I indeed baptise you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

  • Luke 24:49 "Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."

  • Acts 2:4 "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

  • Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed."

Some people immediately after being water baptised are filled with The Holy Spirit in the baptism tank. We hope this has helped you immensely, and look forward to baptising you at our upcoming baptism service.

"Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in Heaven." Matthew 10:32
